Beginning July 20, 2009, residents living in the City of Fort Pierce will be required to register their cats and dogs (Ord. Sec. 4-50). After this date, all cats and dogs are required to wear registration tags (Ord. Sec. 4-51). Additionally, anyone who breeds cats or dogs and offers puppies or kittens for sale must obtain a breeder’s registration (Ord. Sec. 4-53).
The ordinance requires cat and dog owners to pay an annual registration fee for their pets. This registration fee is greatly reduced for sterilized cats and dogs.
Licensing your dog or cat protects them and allows animal control officers to return stray pets to their owner while avoiding impoundment fees that would otherwise cost owners more than $165.
