Can I make a police report over the telephone?
Some reports may be taken over the telephone. The call taker who answers your call can determine if your report may be taken over the phone.
Why did it take so long for the police to come when I called them last night?
All requests for police service are assigned a priority, which is based upon the seriousness of the incident and the potential for injury or damage. Sometimes, calls for service of a less urgent nature must be delayed so that emergencies can be handled immediately.
Should I report suspicious activity in my neighborhood?
ABSOLUTELY! The police department depends on citizens calling to report crimes or suspicious activity. You will be asked questions about the activity to determine its nature for descriptions of the people involved. You may be asked if you would like an officer to contact you, however, you may remain anonymous if you wish. To report suspicious activity, call 911.
What can I do about speeders and other traffic violators in our neighborhood?
For quality of life issues, such as speeders, you should contact Captain Joseph Wirthman at 772-468-1805 ext. 5700 if you live in north of Orange Avenue or on South Hutchinson Island. Contact Captain Robert Sandifer at 772-468-1805 ext. 5296 if you live south of Orange Avenue.
Can I get a copy of a report and how much does it cost?
In accordance with Florida Statute Chapter 119.07(1). If the nature or volume of public records to be copied requires the extensive use of information technology resources, or extensive clerical or supervisory assistance, or both, the agency may charge a reasonable fee based on the cost actually incurred by the agency for such use.

Can police tow a junk car left on my property or in a parking lot?
The police department can only tow cars that have been abandoned on public property or a city street. You may call a wrecker service of your choice to tow the car away.
Where do I go to pay my traffic citation?
Traffic Citations are processed through the St. Lucie County Clerk of the Court's office. To pay a traffic citation you received in the City of Fort Pierce you may go to the clerk's office located at 218 South 2nd Street.
