The Neighborhood Policing Bureau is the largest division of the Fort Pierce Police Department and is commanded by 29-year veteran, Captain Gregory L. Kirk. The bureau is comprised of the uniformed patrol force of the City of Fort Pierce and it provides first response to all emergencies, performs preliminary investigations, and provides basic patrol services to our residents.
The Neighborhood Policing Bureau consists of ten patrol zones, which are patrolled by eight shifts of road patrol officers, eight sergeants, and four lieutenants. The bureau is broken down further into individual units, including the SWAT team, Canine Unit, Boat Unit, School Crossing Guards, and Community Service Aides.
The bureau is divided into District I and District II and covers an area of approximately 20 square miles. The western boundary is Florida Turnpike and includes all the area east of the turnpike, including the river and beach areas, north from Midway Road to the most northern boundary of Woodward Drive.
Captain Gregory Kirk has been with the department since 1982 and has an Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice, a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Captain Kirk also received advanced training in special weapons and tactics and dignitary protection from the United States Army. He is a member of the Florida SWAT Association and many other professional institutions. He is also commander of the department’s SWAT team and the Emergency Manager for criminal critical incidents and homeland security issues.
Captain Kirk is a senior leadership graduate from the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute, a graduate of the Command Officers Development Course from the Southern Police Institute, University of Louisville, and graduated from the International Academy of Polygraph in the specialized discipline of Polygraph Science and Methodology. Captain Kirk is also an FBI National Academy Graduate, class 235. |
