Welcome to the City of Fort Pierce
Why Choose Fort Pierce?
The City of Fort Pierce offers a friendly, small-town atmosphere, a year-round ideal climate, and no metropolitan hassles. Known as the Sunrise City, it serves as the County Seat of St. Lucie County, situated on the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon, approximately midway between Orlando and Miami, making it the geographic center of the Treasure Coast.
The beaches in Fort Pierce are uncrowded, pristine, and abundant, while its waterways remain clean and clear. Fort Pierce Inlet stands as the safest and shortest inlet on the Atlantic Coast, leading to the Port of Fort Pierce, one of 14 Florida deep-water ports. The Indian River Lagoon is broad and recognized as one of the most biodiverse estuaries in North America.
Fort Pierce prides itself on being a safe city, with crime rates having decreased by 50%, including a 33% reduction in violent crime since 2015. It is also a smart city, offering interactive kiosks that provide real-time information about attractions, dining options, weather updates, and more.
With plentiful opportunities for freshwater and saltwater fishing, along with marinas and clean waterways, Fort Pierce is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Efforts to preserve water quality include relocating the wastewater treatment plant away from the Lagoon, implementing waterfront stormwater projects, and establishing anchoring limitation zones.
Key attractions in Fort Pierce include the Indian Hills Golf Course near Historic Downtown, a City Marina with modern amenities set to expand, and the historic Sunrise Theatre for the Performing Arts, boasting a seating capacity of 1200.
For pet lovers, there are dog parks both on the beach and mainland, along with an animal adoption center committed to finding loving homes for every pet. The city also offers convenient garbage and recycling services with twice-weekly garbage service and once-a-week single-stream recycling and horticulture pickup.
Parks on both the mainland and beachside cater to various activities such as boating, swimming, surfing, pickleball, festivals, playgrounds, and more. The New York Mets Baseball Stadium is down the road in nearby Port St. Lucie. Cultural enthusiasts can explore museums and trails like the National UDT Navy Seal Museum, A.E. Bean Backus Art Museum, Zora Neale Hurston Trail, Manatee Center, St. Lucie Regional History and Cobb Cultural Center, and the Florida Highwaymen Museum, among others.
Fort Pierce boasts educational opportunities with Indian River State College, recognized with an ASPEN award for affordability and for producing a skilled local workforce. The public school graduation rate consistently exceeds 90%, and there are excellent private school options available.
Lawnwood Regional Medical Center serves as a Level II trauma center with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, renowned for its cardiac and pediatric services, providing quality healthcare to residents and visitors alike.
