[ARCHIVED] City of Fort Pierce Announces Call for Artists for Florida Highwaymen Museum Mural

Mural Rendering

The City of Fort Pierce is honored to announce an exciting opportunity for artists to participate in a landmark mural project celebrating the legacy of the Florida Highwaymen—26 African-American artists whose work profoundly influenced Florida's cultural and artistic history.

A large-scale mural will be installed on the exterior south and east walls of the newly renovated Florida Highwaymen Museum, located at 1234 Avenue D, Fort Pierce, FL 34950. The mural's design has been carefully selected to capture the essence and culture of the Highwaymen artists, paying tribute to their significant contributions to the art world. The combined dimensions of the mural space measure approximately 19 feet in height and 51 feet in width, providing about 969 square feet for the artwork. To view the rendering of the mural, please visit: Florida Highwaymen Mural.

This call for artists is open to both well-established and emerging muralists skilled in large-scale painting, mural techniques, surface preparation, and finishing methods. Artists from Fort Pierce and surrounding areas are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Requirements

Interested artists must submit the following materials with their application:

  • A resume or CV
  • Three (3) examples of previous mural projects
  • Three (3) references from former clients
  • A detailed proposal including the artist's fee, estimated costs for materials and supplies, and travel expenses
  • An estimated timeline for project completion

Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ by March 19, 2025.

For additional information regarding the application process or project details, please contact: Audria V. Moore, Special Projects Coordinator at amoore@cityoffortpierce.com

The City of Fort Pierce looks forward to receiving applications from talented artists to contribute to this historic project, honoring the legacy of the Florida Highwaymen through public art.
