The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety and upholding the rule of law within the community. Tasked with investigating a wide range of criminal cases, CID detectives diligently pursue investigative leads, gather evidence, and conduct interviews to solve cases. CID detectives typically investigate crimes against persons, such as robbery, homicide, and sexual battery, as well as crimes against property, such as burglary, theft, and fraud.
Each day, CID detectives start by reviewing reports and prioritizing cases based on their severity and urgency. They collaborate with patrol officers and other law enforcement agencies to gather information and coordinate investigative efforts. Interviewing witnesses, suspects, and victims is a significant part of a CID detective’s daily routine. CID detectives also work closely with Crime Scene Investigators to analyze forensic evidence, such as DNA, fingerprints, and ballistics, utilizing modern technology to aid investigations.
Administrative tasks, such as writing reports, attending meetings, and testifying in court round out a CID detective’s responsibilities. Despite the challenges, CID remains dedicated to serving the Fort Pierce community and bringing justice to victims of crime.
